Empowering RC Nicholson College with Reliable Kacific Satellite Internet
RC Nicholson College, formerly known as Vonunu Secondary School, is one of the largest senior secondary institutions in the Western Province of Solomon Islands, now proudly owned and operated by the United Church of Solomon Islands. Located on Vella Island, the college has taken a significant leap into the digital future with the installation of reliable, high-speed satellite internet powered by Kacific.
Thanks to a successful collaboration with Island Tech Solomons, the school now enjoys stable and affordable internet connectivity, enabling students and teachers to engage in digital learning, communication, and online research like never before.
A Vision for Digital Education
A key milestone in this transformation was a productive meeting between Mr. Farhad James, Managing Director of Island Tech Solomons, and Mr. Lawrence, Principal of RC Nicholson College. The meeting took place in Honiara on June 30th, where both parties discussed long-term digital strategies for the college, including the integration of e-learning tools and cloud-based school management systems.
Island Tech Solomons remains committed to bridging the digital divide in rural and remote schools across the Solomon Islands, and this partnership is a testament to that vision.
A Game-Changer for Form 7 Students
Among the biggest beneficiaries of this upgrade are the Form 7 students, who previously had to travel to Gizo for research, communication with the University of the South Pacific (USP), or to submit assignments. Now, with Kacific satellite internet, students can conduct research, access online academic resources, and submit their coursework digitally, directly from the college campus.
This transformation not only saves time and travel costs—it levels the playing field for students in remote island communities and opens new doors to higher education.
Looking Ahead
With internet connectivity now secured, RC Nicholson College is well-positioned to expand its digital capabilities—from implementing online learning platforms to enabling remote teacher training and efficient communication with stakeholders.
Island Tech Solomons is proud to support this journey, ensuring that even schools in the outer islands like Vella are connected, empowered, and ready for the future.
